Come and experience the great outdoors at “A Cowboy's Riverfront Retreat”, located on the outskirts of beautiful Joseph, Oregon, on the banks of the Wallowa River. Set amid the stunning beauty of the majestic Wallowa Mountains in northeast Oregon, this facility was once the working studio of bronze artist, J. Shirly Bothum. In keeping with the artist's love of nature, wildlife, and this area in particular, we now provide a restful haven for visitors to unwind and relax. Here you can “get away from it all” at our quiet retreat—leave the stress of the outside world behind as you experience what nature has to offer in this unique part of the country. A Cowboy's Riverfront Retreat's facilities include comfortable sleeping accommodations for up to six people, with one king bed, one queen bed, and one queen-size futon. The sleeping area includes a private bath with shower. The kitchenette is equipped to handle snacks or light meals with a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and dining table. Our large, comfortable lounge area has satellite TV, books, card and board games for your relaxation, and wireless internet access for your convenience. The large deck and outdoor lounge area overlooks the river—there is a gas grill available for use and easy access from the deck for those trout fishing enthusiasts!. We have recently completed our dry heat sauna room for our guests enjoyment. Our corner of the world is often referred to as the “Switzerland of America” and our proximity to the beautiful Wallowa mountains, Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, and Eagle Cap Wilderness Area provides the opportunity to engage in a vast array of outdoor activities. You can enjoy walking trails while bird watching or photographing the incredible scenery. If your lifestyle involves a preference for more strenuous pursuits, explore our unique area by hiking, biking, on horseback, or winter skiing—both downhill and cross country being available. For the even more adventurous, backpacking, pack trips on horseback, and white water float trips provide an even closer encounter with our magnificent mountains. A Cowboy's Riverfront Retreat will provide your peaceful, stress-free “home base” while you explore the area and learn why our favorite artist-cowboy, J. Shirly Bothum, loved it here so much. Whether you visit in January because snow skiing is your passion, or you choose to stay with us in July and experience the famous Chief Joseph Days Rodeo, we look forward to the opportunity to provide you with comfortable lodging and warm hospitality.
